In-Person AAC Experiences

Heart Speak Journeys facilitates in-person AAC experiences for groups. Traditionally, these offerings might be referred to as presentations or workshops. However, AAC is language, therefore it is best learned and understood through experience.

Communication is a shared responsibility.

Heart Speak Journeys provides creative and playful ways for groups to engage with and experience AAC. We believe play is key in reducing perfectionism and possible fear about getting it wrong; instead play invites curiosity and helps people be brave together.

Communication is reciprocal.

Heart Speak Journeys empowers communication communities including the family, friends, caregivers, and professionals of AAC users to listen deeply and participate in learning and using AAC as a shared means of interaction. Through AAC experiences, the child’s language is recognized as valid and valued. Through AAC experiences, the child’s voices is truly heard, creating a greater sense of belonging. Through AAC experiences, authentic relationships are nurtured and grow. By inviting all to experience AAC, there is an embracing of inclusion from all angles.

AAC Hangouts

AAC Hangouts are a way for kids and teens to be immersed in AAC in a peer-based, natural environment. At least one parent or caregiver is required to accompany each child. We invite family members, caregivers, siblings, and other members of the child’s communication community to come and participate as well!

Let’s create, learn, and have fun together!

AAC Connections

AAC Connections are focused on supporting the members of the child’s communication community. For instance, families connecting with other families who are on the AAC journey, educators or professionals wanting to learn more about AAC to support their clients, or caregivers and parents who want to be more proficient with AAC to better support their child at home. Ultimately, AAC Connections help the community learn and feel more confident using AAC, thereby supporting and honoring the communication of the child they love.

Let’s keep it playful and real.

Camp Corbett for All

Camp Corbett for All focuses on the child who uses AAC and their communication community of parents, siblings, friends, extended family, caregivers, educators, and professionals. Based on the original Camp Corbett, this community-based AAC immersion model transforms the child’s communication community into “AAC ambassadors,” fostering a sustainable support network across settings.

While the overall model is called Camp Corbett for All, each camp is named after the participating child (e.g., Camp Amelia, Camp Jamal). This practice intentionally centers the child rather than positioning them as a recipient of a generic program. Naming the camp after the child reinforces that the experience belongs to them, reflects their preferences and personality, and signals to peers, caregivers, and family members that they are gathering for and with that child.
