Camp Corbett

Camp Corbett: May 2025

Corbett and his family collaborated with Heart Speak Journeys to plan, organize, and put on a series of gatherings with Corbett’s community. Make-A-Wish Foundation made Camp Corbett possible, supporting every step of the way.

Corbett’s community including his parents, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, therapists, educators, and nurses. We organized a series of gatherings to create art, play games, make music, tell stories, and get imaginative together.

Community of Inclusion

When we are included, we feel loved. When we are included, we feel belonging. When we are included, we are part of community. When we are included, there’s a sense of being honored for who we are. When we are included, we are seen. And when we are included, we are heard.

Corbett’s community agreed to be brave, listen deeply, and turn off their voices to learn to use the AAC supports Corbett uses to communicate, including strategies, tools, and technology.

Inclusion. Love. Community. Connection. Belonging.

When we listen, we receive love. When we deeply listen, we receive connection. Inclusion gives and receives.

Testimonials

I loved Camp Corbett. I felt loved because my family and friends learned to talk with me. I was proud of them. My favorite part was my speech-language pathologistAndryce, making lots of fun games for me and my friends. Each activity helped practice using a way to communicate that’s very different to using [spoken] words.  – Corbett (Read more)
